Ricky was born in Yeovil and attended Preston Primary School, Preston Comprehensive School and Yeovil College.
He played badminton for his school and Somerset County Team. He represented Somerset in the Nottingham (English Schools Badminton Association) in 1995 and 1996. He was the U/16s County Singles Champion in 1995 and 1996 and won the doubles with William Phelps and mixed doubles with Kelly Fairey. Ricky also played doubles in the South East Somerset League with Peter Allen and played for Westlands Badminton Club.
A big thank you to Roy Allen for those years of coaching and to Pete Allen and James
Elkin for organising the annual Ricky Sansom Badminton Tournament.
Another thank you to our family and friends and every one of Ricky’s many friends for their support.
Life for a Life Memorial Forest (Sutton Bingham Reservoir, near Yeovil)
On 27/04/04 an English oak tree was planted in memory of Ricky. There’s also a bench in memory of Ricky and Gina.
STILL SO LOVED AND MISSED
As a keen badminton player, Ricky was a much loved member of the badminton community.
Because of this, we run a memorial tournament every year, with all proceeds going back into local badminton.
