The Fine Print
CLOSING DATE: 15th June 2026
In 2007 on the 10th anniversary of Ricky’s death we started the Sansom Memorial badminton tournament to honour Ricky’s life.
Over the years we have refined the tournament with the overall goal to give everyone the opportunity to play competitive badminton while having fun whatever their ability.
The day is divided into several mini-tournaments matching players to opponents with similar abilities regardless of age or gender.
The tournament is non-profit and proceeds go back into the south Somerset county badminton network to help create opportunities for all people wanting to play the game.
CONDITIONS OF ENTRY
- The tournament is open to anyone.
- Players will be split into groups, depending on their ability and experience, not age or gender! Prizes/ trophies will be awarded to winners in each category/ grade.
- Singles and doubles will be played in pools before the knockout stages.
- It is hoped to have groups for non-league players, league standard players, and county players if numbers permit.
- Anyone not having a partner, should put ‘Partner Wanted’ on their Entry Form. Doubles pairs can be of mixed gender.
- The Tournament will start at 9 am, and it is likely that play will continue until 5.00 pm.
- The Entry Fee will be £12 per person for one event or £20 per person if entering both singles and doubles.
- Feather Shuttles will be used.
- All payments should be made online to South Somerset CBN. Details will be sent to you on entry.
- The Tournament Committee reserves the right to refuse entry without assigning a reason, and their decision in all matters is final.
- Any profits made will be put towards the development of junior badminton via the South Somerset Community Badminton Network.
- Results will be posted on Rickysansom.com, Elkinbadminton.co.uk and Somersetbadminton.org.uk
